Expanded Metals
Expanded metals are half-products in plates or tracks made from certain materials with openings which are mesh connected without entwining or welding. The most important characteristic of expanded metal is its lightweight rigidity. It can be entwined in various shapes while not loosing is rigidity or solidity, an advantage with respect to other mesh-like materials. Mesh can be produced from such materials such as steel, aluminum, copper, silver or even PVC tracks. The application of expanded metals is very wide and is used:
- For fencing for gardens, backyards, residential and industrial facilities,
- For floor treads, stairways, transport vehicles, construction machinery, cranes, mining, etc.,
- For protective mesh for machine belts and other rotating parts,
- For sieves in milling, bakery and food industry,
- In electrical industries for the production of protective meshes in batteries, plates for grounding, protective covers for heating bodies, masks on heaters, etc.,
- In the radio and TV industry for covering speakers and microphones,
- In light industry for the protection of instruments, various supports, shelves in cloakrooms, billboards, garbage bins, towels, etc.,
- For pallets and boxes used for transporting all kinds of goods,
- In the automobile industry for automobile grills, tractors and filters,
- In the construction industry as reinforcing steel, for walls and roofs, reinforcing steel on asphalt paths, factory floors, etc.
Basic Characteristics for Choosing Mesh Made from Expanded Metal
The basic characteristics of mesh made from expanded metal are its longer (LD) and shorter (CD) lattice diagonal, sheet thickness (t), and rib width (w), as well as the sought after material and mesh format (plate for track).
Material designations are:
- Fe – iron St-13 03 (hot rolled) or S235RJ (hot rolled)
- Al – aluminum Pt 99,5%
- FeZn – galvanized steel St-03 Z
